Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 06 conducted Defensive Operations, Assault River Crossing and Offensive Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWTS) from 1 to 21 December 2017

Students of SCSC 06 conducted different indoor planning and discussions concluded by outdoor applications in the general areas of Musanze / Gakenke in the Northern Province.

From 1 to 8 December 2017, Defensive Operations Tactical Exercise without Troops nicknamed KAZA IBIRINDIRO was conducted. It was an 8 day exercise consisted of indoor and an outdoor application in the general area of MUSANZE District.

Through KAZA IBIRINDIRO, students were able to apply the Combat Estimate as a tool for decision making. Also they were able to discuss various concepts of operations, and the employment of Support Arms in defensive operations.

From 09 to 12 December 2017, an Assault River Crossing TEWT nicknamed INYOGARUZI was conducted in the general area of BURERA District.

From 13 to 21 December 2017, an Offensive Tactical Exercise without Troops nicknamed HASHYA UMWANZI was conducted. Offensive operations are the decisive activities during major combat operations. An outdoor application was conducted in the general area of GAKENKE district.

EX HASHYA UMWANZI is a week-long Offensive Operation TEWTs designed to practice students of SCSC 06 in the planning and conduct of Advance to Contact, and Hasty and Deliberate Attacks using the Combat Estimate up to Bde Gp level.

The purpose of the defensive was to practice students on the mechanisms of planning and conducting defensive operations at Bde level of command.

Specifically, the main objectives of assault river crossing were to assess student’s ability to plan for an assault river crossing operation using Combat Estimate, to ascertain student’s ability to select suitable staging areas and crossing sites. To evaluate student’s understanding of tactical procedures for Assault River crossing ops and also to assess their understanding of the employment of Combat Support Arms in Assault River Crossing Operations.

The main objectives of Offensive operations were to assess the ability to plan and conduct advance to contact, hasty and deliberate attack operations, and also to assess the application of related procedures and drills at the tactical level.

The College Commandant and all DS followed the conduct of the exercises.
