The Rwanda Defence force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC), as part of its Curriculum, annually organizes a National study tour for officers undertaking Senior Command and Staff Course. This is in accordance with its Mission and Vision of Developing the intellectual Ability of Students officers to enable them better understand National, Regional and Global Security Challenges and how they impact on the Military operating environment. The proposed Theme of this year’s study tour is “Agricultural Transformation initiatives towards achieving sustainable security development ‘and is aimed at providing firsthand information on the current state of affairs with regards to the Rwanda agricultural sector. The ultimate end state of the tour was to establish the linkage between Food security, Sustainable security and development as well as the challenges in order to proffer some solutions.
The RDFCSC Students and faculty members led by the Commandant Maj Gen J B KAZURA and other College authorities arrived at Ministry of Agriculture and Animal resource on 2nd February 2016. They received a briefing by Minister, Hon Dr Geraldine MUKESHIMANA on variety of the areas to be visited.
The National Study Tour for SCSC04 was divided into four groups in all the 4 provinces of Rwanda for five days from 2nd to 6th Feb 16. They visited various areas in which agriculture and animal resources are intensified. Students visited various administrative levels in the province to get briefings on the developmental projects, initiatives, challenges and future prospects in the Agriculture sector of their administrative areas.
As agriculture in Rwanda remains the trade sector that holds potential expansion, and after being briefed by different authorities, Students of SCSC 04 were able to understand the linkage between Food security, sustainable development and National security, polices and strategies that guide the transformation of the country‘s agriculture sector, appraise agricultural initiatives and their impact in achieving poverty reduction and food security in rural areas. However, creating policies, innovations and initiatives to maintain and increase agriculture and livestock productivity will conclude the country development and sustainability.
As culture of RDFCSC and on behalf of the Commandant, authorities exchanged tokens with local dignitaries in memory of the study tour of SCSC 04.
