On behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Deputy Commandant presided over the opening ceremony of the 16th Junior Command and Staff Course.

In his remarks, he welcomed and congratulated the students for having been selected to attend the course. He said: "the journey that you are about to undertake is very tight but extremely rewarding; it will expose you to new perspectives, thinking process and approaches to taking various military problems. Essentially, JCSC aims at preparing selected officers for Grade 3 Staff appointments, Command appointment at mid-tactical level of war."

Hence, while the JCSC seems short, it prepares officers to become more competent commanders within and at Battalion level and as a Grade 3 Staff officer. It also prepares them and is a prerequisite for the Senior Command and Staff course.

The official opening ceremony was preceded by a physical readiness test, entry test exam and the acquaintance to the college infrastructure and facilities.
